Beer Reviews 12-2-12

Here are my reviews for this week:

Mokah, Imperial Blended Stout

Southern Tier Brewing Co. Lakewood, NY

ABV: 11.2%

Bitterness: medium

Sips (out of 5): 4.5

I have said it before I am a huge fan of Southern Tier, especially their Blackwater Series. Mokah is the April release in this series. It is a blend of Southern Tier’s Jahva and Choklat stouts. It is an awesome beer and you must try it when it is released again in April. It has such a wonderful blend of the smokey/sweet coffee taste of Jahva and the strong, rich chocolate taste of Choklat. Again, I urge all of my readers to try this beer, when you do you will keep wanting more.

OBX Beer, Kolsch Style Beer

Weeping Radish Brewery, Jarvisburg, NC

ABV: 6%

Bitterness: light

Sips: 1.5

This isn’t a very good beer. It is basically a step above Miller Lite in my book. Don’t waste your time with it.

Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout

Rogue Ales Newport, OR

Bitterness/IBU: medium/69

Sips: 4

This is a great beer. It is a classic oatmeal stout, smooth with a nice sweet finish. I would drink this over and over again, and you all should give it a try too. It is available year round.

Imperial Stout

Samuel Smith Brewing Co. Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, UK

Bitterness: medium

Sips: 3.5

Samuel Smith is an old school brewery, so you won’t find any funky flavors in their beers. Saying that, this is a pretty standard imperial stout, standard but good. It is smokey in taste, but there is something about Samuel Smith’s beers, they are standard and straightforward, but they are above average beers. Try this one and let me know what you think of it.
