Beer Reviews 12-23-12

Here are my reviews for the week:

mocha porterMocha Porter

Rogue Brewery Newport, OR

Bitterness (IBU): medium, 54

Sips (out of 5): 3

This mocha flavored porter is a very good porter, but is lacking in the mocha taste. If you want to add more of a mocha taste to this beer you could try eating some chocolate with it like I did. Gie it a try and let me know what you think. It is available year round.

rogue baconVoodoo Doughnut, Bacon Maple Ale

Rogue Brewery Newport, OR

Bitterness (IBU): low, 30

Sips: 3

At first smell this ale smells like a stale hot dog. It doesn’t taste like that or even taste like bacon, it really has more of a smokey applewood taste to it. It is a pretty weird beer. I would say to give it a try. It is available year round.

unearthlyUnearthly, oak aged imperial IPA

Southern Tier Brewing Co Lakewood, NY

ABV: 9.6%

Bitterness: high

Sips: 3.5

This imperial IPA has a very distinctive taste derived from the oak it is aged with. It is the only high ABV beer that Southern Tier makes that actually has an overly liquor taste to it. Nonetheless I did like this beer, and would recommend trying it. It is a limited release beer that shows up in March.
